Overview

The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) is a voluntary membership organization serving the interests of more than 10,000 independent insurance brokers across the Province of Ontario. Working together, we are able to build and maintain a business environment that allows individual brokerages to thrive.

IBAO represents our members' interests to government ministries and regulatory bodies, as well as to insurance industry commissions and associations. These bodies recognize us as the authoritative voice of Ontario's independent brokers.

Through membership in the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC), IBAO also ensures that the needs of Ontario's independent brokers are taken into account whenever the Canadian government or the insurance industry seek to introduce policy shifts that affect brokers across the country.

Who Are We?

The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) is a non-profit professional business association for independent brokers and it is the recognized symbol of excellence within the insurance industry. Membership is strictly voluntary, but is highly recommended in order to offer the highest degree of training, knowledge and service.

The IBAO offers continuing education programs and training seminars for its members. To qualify for membership, an insurance broker must first pass a licensing exam as set by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) and are then required to meet all of the IBAO’s membership standards. In order to maintain a license and membership, brokers must attend continuing education courses every year.

IBAO is also part of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC), that awards the CAIB (Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker) professional designation and offers Best Practices courses to assist independent brokers to improve the efficiency of their operations and help serve you better.

IBAO deals with governmental issues affecting you and reviews proposed wording changes in legislation that ensures the consumer is protected.

IBAO Mission Statement:

In 1997, an IBAO Strategic Planning Session created a mission statement for the organization. The statement succinctly summarizes the key goals underlying all IBAO activities:

IBAO Mission Statement:

"To preserve and enhance the value and integrity of the independent broker insurance distribution system and to be recognized as an invaluable resource to and by member brokers."
