New Industry Training to Support 2026 Ontario Auto Insurance Reforms

26 Jan 2026

5 MIN READ

Effective July 1, 2026, Ontario will implement changes to auto insurance accident benefits to give drivers more choice and control over their coverage. Some accident benefits that are currently included automatically in auto insurance policies will become optional, while core medical, rehabilitation and attendant care benefits will remain mandatory.

To support consistent, industry-wide understanding of these changes, Ontario’s property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry has launched a new training program for brokers, agents, and insurance professionals.

The course is being delivered as part of a broader collaboration with the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO), the Insurance Institute of Canada (IIC) and the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA).

2026 Ontario Auto Reform: Introduction to Accident Benefits Changes is a free, two-hour online course available to all industry professionals. The course helps participants understand what is changing, how changes are reflected in policy forms and products, and what they mean for consumers. By establishing a shared foundation of knowledge, the program supports training efficiency and consistency. RIBO is not delivering or administering this course. All questions about the course should be directed to the education provider offering it.

By promoting consistent, professional development across Ontario’s insurance industry, the initiative ensures brokers, agents, and insurance professionals are prepared to help consumers navigate upcoming auto insurance reforms. Insurers and industry partners will be providing additional training in Q2 2026 to cover internal system changes, insurer product offerings and rating processes, consumer interactions, claims processing and E&O considerations.
