Broker Training — How CAIB is Changing in 2026
15 Dec 2025
5 MIN READ
The Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) program, developed by the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada, is a national designation that equips brokers with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in a brokerage environment. It covers all aspects of Property & Casualty insurance including Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Brokerage Management.
In 2026, the program is getting a major update to reflect current industry practice and learning styles including refreshed policy wording, updated forms and real-world examples. New features include expanded scenarios, case studies and interactive learning tools like digital notes, bookmarking and practice quizzes. Chris Coniglio (IBAO facilitator) and Wendy Watson (Ontario broker) co-authored the CAIB 1 & 4 rewrite, with IBAO’s Education Department managing key project elements.
All four CAIB modules have been refreshed. CAIB 1 now includes content on the Canadian legal system, underwriting principles and expanded auto and home insurance material. CAIB 2 and 3 have been reorganized, with new and expanded content including Cyber insurance, Directors’ and Officers’ coverage, Reinsurance, Risk Management and the Sharing Economy. CAIB 4 now incorporates new case studies and features a redesigned exam aligned with the other volumes.
The updated CAIB program will continue to be offered in multiple learning formats including Immersion, Weekly Webinars, In-Class Group Discussion and Self Study. The Self-Study Previous Edition will remain available until December 2026 so learners can complete CAIB 2 and 3 under the same version—these two modules must be completed using the same edition (this requirement doesn't apply to CAIB 1 and 4).
2026 CAIB schedules are now available—see our course pages for details.
