This International Women’s Day, we’re taking a closer look at two women shaping the broker channel — one stepping into association leadership, the other guiding the next generation of brokers. Their stories offer a candid look at what it means to build credibility, take risks and lead with purpose.

Q&A with Giovanna Costa Fazari | YBC President

What inspired you to get involved with IBAO’s Young Brokers Council?
I was inspired by the YBC team when I attended my first Young Brokers Conference just over three years ago. At the time, I wasn’t sure if I fit in the industry, but what I saw from the YBC Team was energy, purpose and a genuine commitment to lifting brokers up. That experience motivated me to get involved in hopes of inspiring others the same way.

Was there a risk you took early in your career that helped shape your path?
Leaving a successful career to work in insurance for more flexibility to raise my young children was a big risk. Unknowingly, it became one of the best decisions I’ve ever made — I’ve since built my business, expanded my professional network and grown my industry family.

As you’ve advanced, how have you built confidence and credibility?
I’ve built confidence by embracing new experiences, seeking mentorship in the industry and being open to feedback. Credibility comes from staying true to my values — delivering on commitments, communicating transparently and acting with integrity. My confidence continues to grow as I keep learning, ask questions and push myself outside my comfort zone.

What’s one step young brokers can take today to advance their careers?
Put yourself out there and embrace the unknown. Listen to those with more experience, stay curious, never stop learning.

What advice would you offer young women who are waiting until they feel ready to step up?
Honestly you’re rarely ever completely “ready”.

There will always be something pulling you in another direction — career, family, friends, clients. Sometimes you just have to quiet that inner voice, put up your hand and go for it.

How can our industry continue to create opportunities that empower emerging leaders?
We need to create spaces and forums where new brokers and emerging leaders can connect and share ideas. Strong mentorship, accessible education and professional development opportunities will also provide the skills and confidence to succeed in this industry.
