RIBO Exams Go In-Person on January 1, 2027: What You Need to Know
08 Oct 2026
9 MIN READ
Starting January 1, 2027, all RIBO licensing exams will be delivered in-person only. Online exams will be discontinued after December 31, 2026.
As one of two RIBO-approved exam providers, IBAO is ready to support candidates through this transition. Here's what's changing, and how IBAO will deliver exams in 2027.
Why RIBO is moving to in-person exams
Online exams were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic as a temporary way to keep licensing on track. RIBO's return to in-person testing reflects how other licensed professions deliver their exams, including law, accounting and life insurance. In-person testing also means technical issues can be resolved on the spot by on-site staff using dedicated equipment.
IBAO's in-person exam delivery
IBAO exams will be held at our Toronto Exam Centre at 1 Eglinton Avenue East, Suite 700, Toronto. As more IBAO exam locations across Ontario are confirmed, we'll share them on our website and notify brokers and candidates directly.
We'll offer four to five exam dates each month, held on Mondays and Thursdays (or Tuesday when a Monday is a statutory holiday). Registration for 2027 exam dates will open by December 2026 on our RIBO Examinations page: https://ibao.org/ribo-examinations.
IBAO will continue to offer the RIBO Level 1 Entry-Level Broker Exam, the RIB Act, Regulations and By-Laws Equivalency Exam, the RIBO Ontario Automobile Equivalency Exam, the Combined Ontario Automobile & RIB Act Equivalency Exam, and the RIBO Level 3 Accelerated Management Exam.
Candidates will write on IBAO-provided computers, with live proctors on-site to support a smooth exam experience from check-in to submission.
Fees, results and rewrites
The exam fee is not changing. RIBO sets the fee, and it remains consistent across both approved providers at $325 per attempt.
Candidates will receive unofficial results within two business days. Official results are issued 14 days after the exam date, and only official results can be used for a licence application.
RIBO has also shortened its rewrite waiting period. Effective January 1, 2027, candidates who are unsuccessful after two attempts with the same provider will only need to wait three months to re-register, down from eight. The standard two-week wait between first and second attempts still applies.
Accommodations
IBAO will continue to provide approved exam accommodations. Requests and supporting documentation should be submitted to IBAO during registration, at least 15 business days before the preferred exam period.
Candidates licensed in other provinces
Candidates who hold an active P&C broker or agent licence in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction can apply to RIBO for a one-time, six-month Temporary Labour Mobility licence while completing their Ontario requirements. Visit RIBO’s website for more information.
