Changes are coming to the RIBO L1 Exam. If you’re planning to write your exam in 2025 here’s what you need to know to achieve your goal of becoming an Ontario Broker.

Starting January 1, 2025, the RIBO L1 exam will align with the new Level 1 Broker Competency Profile. This means the first and second editions of our Broker Launchpad textbook will now be out-of-date for any 2025 exam takers.

To keep pace with these changes, we’re rolling out the Third Edition of our textbook, Becoming an Insurance Broker, effective immediately. The Third Edition includes new definitions, updated RIBO By-Laws, and substantial changes and additions to the Commercial Lines sections.

Our prep course, Broker Launchpad, has also been recalibrated and starting in January 2025, the course will map to the new Broker Competency Profile that students will be examined on.

How We’re Supporting You

We’re stepping up to help our students transition smoothly. We added more exam slots in November and December to accommodate more of those students who want to write the current version of the exam before it changes next year. Spaces are limited and going quickly.

We’re also offering enhanced support for recent Broker Launchpad students writing in 2025. You’ll be eligible for support if you attended a Broker Launchpad Course this fall (October, November, December) or enrolled in our Broker Launchpad On-Demand September onward, and attempted your L1 exam at least once in 2024. If you meet these conditions you’ll receive:

  • A free eBook copy of the Third Edition Textbook
  • A detailed change log table to zero in on what’s new

This offer is self-study—while we’re providing the tools, it’ll be up to you to dive into the new material.
